Why UAI?

As a small, close-knit school dedicated to promoting racial equity and the socio-economic and personal advancement of young women everywhere, UAI is a school on a mission. While our goals are large, our approach to teaching children and supporting our extended UAI family is one rooted in compassion, support and community. At UAI we understand that in order for our students to find their spark, confidently pursue their dreams and feel prepared to change our complex world, they need an extensive toolbox of academic and personal skills and abilities.  Our approach to teaching is holistic; focusing on the whole child's growth and development over time.

Emphasizes critical thinking, civic-mindedness and problem solving skills in our curriculum; UAI students graduate as inquisitive, life-long learners. In addition, UAI is deeply committed  to the social emotional health and well-being of our students, staff and families.  We value the importance of self and social awareness, goal directed behavior and the important life skills needed to ensure personal, academic and professional success.

At UAI we value Joy, Rigor, Power and Equity. These core beliefs shape every decision made at UAI and run deeply through our classrooms, hallways and relationships.

 The All-Girls' School Advantage
Research continually shows that single-gendered academic environments, particularly for young women, hold advantages for students. On the whole, students educated in single-gendered schools report having more self-confidence than their coed peers and perform better academically. In addition, young women in single-gendered academic settings report feeling less bound by gender roles and are more likely to pursue STEM college majors and careers after high school.
