    30JAN18 - Make Promotion In Doubt Phone Calls.  Call all advisees who

    • Failed two or more core classes in MP3
    • AND/OR Currently has <90% Attendance 

    They are officially promotion in doubt (meaning they may not promote to the next grade).  It is imperative that you make contact with the home. If you have problems contacting home, pull the student and have them call home with you.  Please note in Skedula when successful contact is made. Successful contact is when you actually talk to a parent/guardian.  This information is not for email/text.  Parents need to hear this in person.  If students fail, they will end up in summer school.  If they fail more than two classes, they will end up repeating the grade.  There is still a lot of time, but they have to make real changes now!


    06FEB18 - Make Positive Calls Home.  Call all advisees who

    • Passed all their classes
    • AND/OR has >90% Attendance
    • AND/OR did something particularly awesome in class this week.

    Positive calls are just as essential as corrective ones.  They help us build the bonds we need to build partnerships with our students' families and create a strong network of support.  Please note the contact in Skedula.

    13FEB18 - Remind Families to come to our Annual Black History Month Event
    School messenger and other announcements will have already gone out.  This outreach effort is to provide our families with a reminder on the day of the event and is an additional personal touch that makes UAI special.   Also remind parents that we will be having a rapid dismissal on Thursday, 15FEB18 and no after-school programs.  Midwinter Recess begins on the 16th and students return to school on 26FEB.  Don't forget to note contact in Skedula.

    27FEB18 and 06MAR18 - Schedule SLCs with your Advisees. 

    SLCs will be on March 8th from 5-8PM and on March 9th from 11:50-2:50PM.   All Advisees MUST be scheduled no later than Tuesday, 06MAR18.  Look for the Appointment Sheet to log your appointments.


    13MAR18 - Make Promotion In Doubt Phone Calls.  Call All Advisees Who

    • Didn't make it to SLCs
    • AND/OR Are Failing any Classes
    • AND/OR Did poorly on the Benchmarks (<40 for Predicted Regents Score, LVL 1 for MS test)
    • AND/OR Have <90% Attendance

    These calls are critical interventions for students who didn't make it to the SLCs.  In addition, you'll need to ask the parent to complete the survey (you can send home with student).  They will be entered into a raffle when they successfully turn in the survey.  Teachers who have 100% submission of their surveys will also be entered into a raffle (still TBD at present).

    We will have a rapid dismissal on Thursday, 29MAR and there will be no after-school.  Spring Break begins on Friday 30MAR and students return to school on Monday, 09APR.

    • AND/OR has been removed from class more than three times this month

    MP2 ends on 27APR18 and the timing of this call is to intervene and help students prevent failing.  This needs to be an in-person call so that parents and students have a chance to ask questions and discuss options with you. Please note successful contact and gist of the conversation in Skedula.

    17APR18 - Check Anecdotales, Grades, and Attendance and Call All Advisees Who

    • Are passing all classes
    • AND/or has >90% attendance
    • AND/OR has done something particularly awesome this month

    Students should have already begun studying for upcoming Regents Benchmarks and MS Math exams.  Call home to remind families to support the student studying at home.

    Call home to let families know all the important dates remaining in June. This will be your final call on Tuesdays for Parent Outreach time.  Please prioritize any students who are still failing classes.  They will definitely be going to summer school (or repeating, depending on how many classes they fail).  Parents will need to know so they can plan accordingly.

The UA Institute has a strong network of integrated and organizational partners.  Integrated partners are independent organizations with staff based in our school that provide direct programming and services to students on a daily basis. Our two integrated partners are Girls Inc. of New York City and the Children’s Aid Society Carrera Treasure Academy.

Girls Inc. of New York City is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and boldSM! Girls Inc.  provides integral enrichment programming including:

  • Project GROW (Girls Reaching Overall Wellness) after school program
  • Girl’s health & wellness classes
  • Economic literacy
  • Career & college exploration
  • Leadership development and violence prevention workshops
  • Family communication workshops

The Children’s Aid Society’s Carrera Treasure Academy (Treasure Academy) is a comprehensive adolescent pregnancy prevention program.  Their model is based on the following seven components designed to provide students with the knowledge, resources, and support to make positive decisions about their bodies and their lives:

  • Free medical and dental care
  • Academic support in the classroom and after school
  • Family life and sexuality education for students and their families
  • Weekly Job Club classes focused on financial literacy
  • Power Group sessions with a licensed full-time mental health staff member
  • Individual lifetime sports
  • Self-expression through the arts

Organizational partners provide vital program development resources including, undergraduate and graduate student tutors and co-teachers, course planning, admission to college-level classes, career exploration, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
